🧸 Setting Up a Bedtime Routine

A short, predictable, and repetitive bedtime routine reassures your baby by clearly signalling that it's time to sleep.

What you'll need

  • 1 soft nightlight (optional).
  • 1 short story or lullaby.

What to do

  1. 1. Keep it consistent

Go through the exact same steps, in the same order, and at roughly the same time every single night.

  2. 2. The sequence

Head into the nursery, zip them into their sleep sack, dim the lights, and sing a soft lullaby or read a quick story in a quiet voice.

  3. 3. Put them down awake

Place baby in their crib while they're still awake but calm, so they learn how to drift off in their own sleep space.

Classic mistakes

  • ❌ Dragging it out Any routine stretching past 20 minutes risks overstimulating them and delaying sleep even further.
  • ❌ Switching tactics every night Repetition is the secret sauce for helping your baby feel safe and secure.
