🍼 Measuring and Prepping a Baby Bottle
Prepping a formula bottle follows a strict ratio rule to make sure your baby gets the right nutrition and to prevent constipation or dehydration.
Gear You'll Need
- 1 clean, dry baby bottle and teat.
- Water suitable for infant formula (low-mineral bottled water or boiled tap water cooled down, depending on local guidelines).
- Tub of infant formula powder.
Step-by-Step
1. Water goes first
Pour the exact amount of water needed into the bottle (e.g., 90 ml, 120 ml, 150 ml / 3 oz, 4 oz, 5 oz).
2. Scooping the powder
Add 1 level scoop per 30 ml (1 fl oz) of water. Use the levelling rim on the tub for an exact, flat scoop—never pack the powder down.
3. The mix
Seal the bottle and roll it horizontally between your palms first to dodge clumps, then give it a solid vertical shake.
4. The temp check
Formula can be served at room temperature or warmed up (max 37°C / 98.6°F). Always test a drop on the inside of your wrist before serving.
Classic mistakes
- ❌ Putting the powder in before the water It messes up the water-to-powder ratio, making the feed too concentrated and tough on baby's kidneys and gut.
- ❌ Nuking it in the microwave Serious burn risk due to uneven heating creating invisible hotspots in the milk.
