🌀 How to Relieve Baby Colic
Colic means intense crying spells, a rock-hard tummy, and plenty of gas. It's usually just down to an immature digestive system and clears up on its own around 3 to 4 months. Hang in there, dad.
Gear to have ready
- A baby-safe heating pad or hot water bottle (lukewarm water or flaxseed/cherry stone pouch—never too hot).
What to do
1. The tummy massage
Rest your warm hand flat on their belly and gently massage in a slow, clockwise circle.
2. The 'tiger in the tree' hold
Lay baby tummy-down along your forearm, their head cradled in the crook of your elbow and your hand supporting between their legs. Stride around the room gently.
3. Bicycle legs
Lay them on their back, take hold of their ankles, and gently pedal their legs, bringing their knees up toward their belly to help squeeze that trapped wind out.
Classic mistakes
- ❌ Switching formula without medical advice Chopping and changing formulas on a whim will only upset their gut even more. Talk to your paediatrician or doctor first.
- ❌ Using a heating pad that's too hot Newborn skin is ultra-fragile and burns easily. Always test it on the inside of your wrist first.
This guide doesn't replace medical advice. When in doubt, call your doctor or your local emergency number.
